Data in the app – for your privacy policy

When a user opens your app for the first time, the app gives the installation a random id and registers it with starti.app. This page describes what is stored, so you can include it in your privacy policy.

What is stored about each installation

DataWhen
Installation idThe first time the app is opened
Push token from Google FirebaseThe first time the app is opened
The phone's language and time zoneThe first time the app is opened
Whether the user has allowed push notificationsWhen the user answers, and when the answer changes
When the app was last activeContinuously
Topics the user followsWhen the user subscribes (requires push permission)
Your own user idOnly if your website sends it

This is the information you see under Tools → App users in the manager.

Installation id

The installation id is a random number the app generates itself. It is not the phone's serial number, advertising id or any other hardware id, and it cannot be used to recognise the phone in other apps. If the app is uninstalled, the id is gone, and a new installation gets a new one.

Push token

The push token is the address Google Firebase Cloud Messaging uses to deliver messages to this particular installation. The app fetches the token straight away, but the phone only shows visible push notifications if the user has said yes in the phone's own dialog. Without consent, the token is only used for invisible system messages, for example when we help you troubleshoot a specific installation.

Linking to a person

The installation is not linked to a name, email or login. It only becomes linked if your website sends a user id to the app, for example when the user logs in (see User).

Operations and statistics

For operations, troubleshooting and statistics, the app also records the phone model, operating system and app version, and events such as "app started" and "notification opened".

Retention and deletion

  • The push token is deleted when Google reports it as invalid, for example after the app has been uninstalled.
  • If an installation has not been active for 90 days, its push token and topics are deleted.
  • You can delete a device or user under Tools → App users. If the app is opened again on the phone, it registers anew.

starti.app does not store the name, email, phone number, contacts, location or advertising id of your app users, unless you send it yourself through your website.

Suggested text

You can use the text below as a starting point and adapt it. Leave out the paragraph about logging in if your website does not send a user id to the app.

Data in the app

Our app is provided by starti.app, which processes data on our behalf. When you open the app for the first time, the installation is given a random id. The id is stored together with a push token from Google Firebase, the phone's language and time zone, and whether you have allowed push notifications. The information is used to run the app and deliver messages to the right device.

You only receive push notifications if you have given permission in the phone's dialog. You can withdraw that permission at any time in the phone's settings.

When you log in, we link the installation to your user account, so we can send messages to you personally.

For operations and troubleshooting, the phone model, version numbers and events such as "app started" are also recorded. The push token is deleted when the app has been uninstalled, or when the app has not been used for 90 days.

If you use other features in the app, such as location, the camera or your own analytics tools, they must also be described in your privacy policy.
